Thought Provoking Article:

Women Don’t Want To Run Startups Because They’d Rather Have Children

There is good evidence that you have to be crazy to do a startup. Jeff Stibel, writing in the Harvard Business Review, calls entrepreneurship a disease. Because you are not likely to make money – you are likely to die broke. And you work insane hours – longer than any other job – and you do it over and over and over again. This is not sane.

(Editor’s note: Just … Wow.  I couldn’t believe this article, and neither could the hundreds and hundreds of people who commented on the article directly, and through the endless repostings.  My wife who is one of my two other partners bunks this perspective, as does another woman CEO entrepreneur local to us , as well as thousands of others.  Let me know your opinion as well!

I am responding to the article “Women Don’t Want To Run Startups Because They’d Rather Have Children.” What planet is this author living on?

As a preschool teacher, my wife is and has always been passionate about children. One day she decided she wanted to open up a preschool. Having a business background and an MBA, I evaluated her business plan and said it would not be profitable. She came back the next day with a plan that was very profitable. She asked me to join her as she has always followed my path of business endevors. Having just recently lost my high level executive position overseeing the construction of bridges, I said “why not.” At the time, our triplet daughters were a little more than a year old.

My wife developed the business plan, the curriculum and inspires an amazing group of teacheers as the Director of our preschool. After nearlly two years of operation, we are approaching full enrollment and realizing the numbers from a very profitable business plan. Our triplets will be five next month. We see children in our program wanting to learn every day. My wife not only loves raising her girls and running a preschool, but she does it so well. We have the most innovative and inviting preschool in our valley. So here’s another woman successuflly running a startup.
