If the facts don’t fit the theory, change the facts.

November 23, 2012

Excerpt from last week’s SNQ Plus 1 internal meeting. “If the facts don’t fit the theory, change the facts.” – Albert Einstein

This quote reflects a concept that I frequently push within our organization – Control your own reality.  Too often people let the “business current” move, turn, twist, and confuse themselves.  In many of these situations, people feel that “it is what it is”, and then they try to just make the most of the situation.  I always ask “why not change the situation to enable a more successful solution?”.

Obviously that doesn’t work in every situation, but it certainly doesn’t hurt to try or ask.  In my experience I’ve found that very frequently you can change the circumstances to create a more favorable situation – it’s simply called being proactive.  Thus my quote is usually along the lines of “Make your own reality” … but Mr. Einstein said it pretty well too 🙂

General Note: every week SNQ has an internal company meeting to address one topic that helps us to stay focused on going above and beyond the stated objectives – even if it is just 1% more.
